Why give?

Your contribution to The Foundation for the Advancement of Midwifery (FAM) makes it possible for us to make midwifery care available to more families. FAM began granting to projects in 2003 that promote the midwifery model of care and has given nearly $250,000 to our grantees. FAM has become the regarded centralizing vehicle for expanding midwifery philanthropy, giving another $250,000 of donor directed funds to promote midwifery. We are a mostly volunteer organization with little overhead expenses to ensure that available resources either benefit FAM grantees or are reinvested to raise more funds for FAM grantees.

With your support we can fund programs which:

• educate the public and policymakers regarding the safety, financial benefit, and birth outcomes of midwifery model of care

• promote solid research and analysis on the safety of the midwifery model of care so that is can be gathered, published and accessible

• increase women’s access to midwifery care

• strengthen organizations already working to accomplish needed changes in maternity care through midwifery

Some local chapters of the United Way allow you to designate which organization will receive your United Way donations. You may be able to donate to us this way even if we are not listed as a participating organization. Contact your employer or your local United Way to find out how.
