The MANA Statistics Project
The [ MANA Statistics Project ] is the world’s largest database of home births in North America to include births attended by Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs). It is also the largest database describing normal birth without routine interventions. This data needs to be available for research and expanded to include the practices of midwives in any setting, including hospitals.
The MANA Statistics Project was an evolution of an earlier program funded by FAM called the “CPM 2000 Stats Project”, and this data was utilized for the study “Outcomes of planned home births with certified professional midwives: large prospective study in North America” published in the British Medical Journal (June 2005).
The MANA Statistics Project also provides data back to midwifery practices and to state midwifery organizations.
By 2008, 11,879 birth records were entered and submitted by midwives. 5,047 log entries are in progress, with over 600 new records currently being started every month by contributors. We are extremely proud of our contribution to this critically important database and the many other programs we fund. We invite you to [ read more ] about them.
